Foundations – 8 Hours

This 8 hour course is designed to introduce the student to school life. Whether you are fresh out of school or have not attended school on a regular basis in sometime, these classes will re-orient you to the rigors of school attendance, and the importance of study habits, time management, and finance management.
Cayce/Reilly Massage and Wellness – 152 Hours
No Prerequisites
This 152-hour 1stsemester course is the study and practice of massage emphasizing the variations developed in part from the Edgar Cayce readings by Dr. Harold J. Reilly. A full body massage sequence is taught with emphasis on hands-on practice, which permits the student to progress at a specific pace, developing skills as additional strokes and techniques are introduced. Medical terminology, contraindications, hygiene, history, body mechanics, draping, benefits, pre-massage procedures, endangerment sites, lubricants, leg length, S.O.A.P. notes, and professionalism are also taught. In addition, Cayce’s holistic remedies are also integrated in the course content. Chair Massage is also covered.
Musculoskeletal Anatomy/Kinesiology – 69 Hours
No Prerequisites
This 69-hours 1st semester course lays the foundation for the study of the Musculoskeletal Anatomy body for massage and soft tissue professionals. Practical application of the material is stressed for the student to be able to understand, rather than memorize the information. Upon completion, the student will be competent in directional terminology, planes of movement, types and movements of joints,(kinesiology) and the origins, insertions, and actions of major muscle groups.
Business and Ethics – 24 Hours
No Prerequisites
This 24-hour 2nd semester course provides practical business guidance you need to enjoy a long and rewarding career in massage therapy and ethical practices in treating clients whether in private practice, as an independent contractor, or as an employee. Business naiveté is one of the primary reasons massage therapists leave the profession. You will be provided with the business skills you need to envision and then launch a successful career as well as the ethical practices to create a safe and healing environment. Whether you choose to be an employee, independent contractor, or business owner, this practical course will guide you every step of the way. Exercises, worksheets and a Portfolio Project will help you explore and better understand your intentions as a therapist. After crafting a vision and defining your personal success, you’ll establish the business, financial, and Ethical foundation you need to meet your goals from professionalism, to money matters, business planning and marketing techniques, you’ll find all the depth and detail you need.
Massage Research – 6 Hours
No Prerequisite
This 6-hour course will focus on the massage research literature with special attention to clinical application. The purpose is to provide a foundation of knowledge and skills for understanding and appreciating the value and limitations of research. Methodological issues in the design and conduct of massage therapy research will be addressed. Students will be required to understand how and where to locate research literature, access and search the massage literature and show a basic understanding of research issues
Body/Mind/Spirit – 20 Hours
No Prerequisite
This 20-hour course is designed to guide students through the exploration of the body/mind/spirit connection in relation to personal health and wellness. Through lecture, video, discussion, demonstration, handouts and self-transformational tools, the student will gain an understanding of the Cayce principle: Spirit is Life, Mind is the Builder and Physical is the Result.
Nutrition – 15 Hours
No Prerequisite
This 15 hour 1stsemester course is designed to provide students with a general understanding of the relationship between nutrition, health and wellness as it applies to their personal self-care. Through lecture and assignments and discussions, the course will explore the basics of nutrition, including: the properties of water, carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, the spectrum of food choices and general dietary considerations. These concepts will also be discussed in the context of personal nutrition and wellness as generally recommended in the Edgar Cayce Readings.
Clinic Experience I – 24 Hours
Prerequisite: Cayce/Reilly Massage and Wellness
This 24-hour course is designed to orient students to the clinical practice environment and to give students experience in practicing massage therapy and receiving client feedback. Students will develop poise and confidence as they relate to clients in real-life situations. In addition, they begin to take responsibility for their schedules, timing, setting up the massage room and working with Cayce/Reilly Student Clinic staff.
Advanced Clinical/Integrative Massage – 68 Hours
Prerequisite: Cayce/Reilly Massage/Wellness
The purpose of this 68-hour 2nd semester class is to provide instruction in advanced clinical modalities and techniques that will enable the student to effectively and efficiently work with clients who have specific injuries, complaints and/or tension patterns. Clinical assessment techniques and basic principles of injury situations will be covered, emphasizing the role of therapeutic treatment protocols. The effects of pain and reduction of pain in the application of technique will be discussed. Theory and practice in various techniques that may include: myofascial release, neuromuscular therapy, Deep Tissue, and PNF stretching will be practiced. Assessment such as postural analysis will be introduced. And finally, integrating these modalities into a 60 or 90 minute session.
Anatomy and Physiology – 75 Hours
No Prerequisite
Through lecture, classroom discussion & homework assignments, this course will review structure and function of the human body studied in Anatomy & Physiology. Addressed systems include: the lymphatic system, cardiovascular system, the respiratory system, the endocrine system, urinary system, reproductive system, Nervous system, skeletal system, muscular system, and the digestive system. There will be a brief discussion on the energetic systems of the body as well.
Applied Pathology – 45 Hours
No Prerequisite
Students will learn a holistic study of pathological processes, conditions and diseases and their signs and symptoms. In addition, this class includes indication and contraindication information for massage therapy in general, as well as specific techniques in relation to various disease conditions. Commonly used holistic ways to improve health and well-being of body, mind and spirit will also be discussed.
Clinical Experience II – 45 Hours
Prerequisites: Cayce/Reilly Massage and Wellness, Clinic Experience I
This course is designed to give students further practical experience during the second semester, in practicing massage therapy, reflexology and other advanced modalities. The students will continue to receive client feedback while working with a variety of clients and one faculty member in a professional environment. They will continue to develop poise and confidence as their assessment and palpation skills increase. They will also begin to understand how all the information taught is relevant to the work they are performing.
Healer’s Path – 10 Hours
No Prerequisites
This course explores the questions: What does it mean to be a healer? How do I, as a massage therapist, “fit” into the healthcare system? How can I work with other healthcare professionals effectively? To answer these questions, students are provided information and experiences to know and understand themselves better in order to better take care of others. A variety of tools for self-realization and self-care are offered throughout the course as students more deeply explore the sacred healing art of practicing therapeutic massage. Attention is also given to inter-professional practice and how massage therapists can effectively work within a variety of complementary healthcare environments.
MBLEX Preparation – 4 Hours
No prerequisites
This course is designed to give students a basic review and preparation for taking the required Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam – MBLEx. Students will learn the application criteria, process and content outline for the Exam. Students will also learn basic test-taking strategies and about computer adaptive testing to enhance their preparation for taking and passing the Exam.
Prenatal Massage – 20 Hours
No Prerequisites
In this class the student will learn the nuances of prenatal massage. The student will learn cautions and contraindications for each trimester of pregnancy as well as proper draping, positioning, and bolstering. Also covered will be postpartum treatment and recovery. Some Anatomical and physiological changes will be discussed as it relates to the prenatal client and the techniques used.
Reflexology – 20 Hours
No Prerequisites
Through this course, students will learn the basics of foot reflexology. This course teaches reflexology theory, history, purpose, the body map and locations of the reflexes on the feet. They will learn relaxation techniques and specific thumb and finger-walking techniques for stimulating the reflexes. There will be an explanation of zone theory and foot anatomy. Students will understand pain and the correct application of pressure, contraindications, how it differs from massage and acupressure. Students will learn how to find the reflexes, what they are, and how to stimulate them. Students will recognize some common reactions and common responses and what results to expect from a treatment and learn about sanitation and hygiene practices in reflexology. Students will understand the science and art of foot reflexology. A complete reflexology procedure and routine will be presented.
Sports Massage – 20 Hours
Prerequisites: Cayce/Reilly Massage and Wellness
This course will enable students to assess athletic clients in order to apply appropriate massage techniques in safe and effective ways. The course includes theory and philosophy of sports massage, pathologies and dysfunctions, and specialized clinical methods to resolve pain syndromes.
