The Cayce/Reilly School of Massage is committed to providing a safe, secure environment in which students can learn their new profession. Crime awareness and campus security are matters for which everyone (staff and students) must take personal responsibility.

During business hours (Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. ET), the Education Center building will be open to students, employees, faculty and visitors. During non-business hours (Monday - Friday, 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. ET and weekends), the Education Center building is open only to faculty, staff and students.

Security personnel monitor the building and grounds each weekday evening to ensure the Education Center building is locked and secure after all classes have concluded.

During weekend hours when Student Clinic is being held, admission to the Education Center building is by key, issued by appropriate staff.

Other campus facilities, including the Café, Health Center and Spa, Library and Bookstore are open to the public at stated business hours of Monday - Friday, 10am - 6pm and Saturday & Sunday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Emergencies may necessitate changes or alterations to these posted schedules.

Crime Awareness Notifications

The Cayce/Reilly School staff and faculty are concerned that every student and employee experience a safe and secure environment while at our school. It is the responsibility of every student, faculty and staff member to be aware of safety and security. 

Community members, students, faculty, staff, and guests are encouraged to report all crimes and public safety-related incidents to the Director, Educational Services Manager, Human Resources Manager or Building and Grounds staff in a timely manner.

To report a crime, or non-emergency security or public safety-related matter on the school campus, call 757-457-7270.

To report an emergency on campus, call 757-717-3221 or dial 911 if emergency medical services or local law enforcement are needed.

The Cayce/Reilly School encourages anyone who is the victim or witness to any crime to promptly report the incident to the police. This will help ensure the future safety of yourself and others and allow that crime data included in the annual crime statistics for the School.

The Cayce/Reilly School prepares an annual Campus Security Report to comply with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act. The full text of this report can be found HERE. This report is prepared in cooperation with local and state law enforcement agencies. Each year, an email notification is made to all enrolled students with a copy of this report and copies can be obtained from the Educational Services Manager as well.

Additional Information and Statistics

The City of Virginia Beach is one of the safest cities in which to live within the area called “Tidewater.” This area includes the cities of Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach. The Cayce/Reilly School of Massage is located within the Second District, with a station located in the nearby “resort” section of town. Virginia Beach was the first city in the state of Virginia to be given the distinction of a “Certified Crime Prevention Community.” The following is the link directly to the Virginia Beach Police Department’s website, this should give any prospective students a better feel for the area in which we live and study.

In the event a situation arises that constitutes an immediate or ongoing safety concern or threat, a “timely warning” will be issued to all Cayce/Reilly students, faculty and staff through email notification and direct, in-person communication if applicable.

A.R.E. Security and Buildings and Grounds staff have the authority to ask persons for identification and to determine whether individuals have lawful business at the Cayce/Reilly School. These staff members do not have the ability to make an arrest, however, incidents are referred to the local police who have jurisdiction on the campus. The A.R.E. maintains a highly professional working relationship with the Virginia Beach Police Department and all crime victims and witnesses are encouraged to immediately report the crime to the police agency. Prompt reporting will assure timely warning notices on-campus and timely disclosure of crime statistics.

Security Awareness and Crime Prevention Programs

The Cayce/Reilly School of Massage does not provide a formal Security Awareness or Crime Prevention programs, however, we encourage students, faculty, and staff to be aware of their responsibility for their own security and the security of others. To enhance personal safety, and especially after an evening class, walk with someone from class to your car and stay alert to your surroundings. Please report any suspicious activity to the Director, Educational Services Manager, Human Resources Manager, or Building and Grounds staff in a timely manner.

Alcohol, Firearms and Substance Abuse Information

The Cayce/Reilly School of Massage strictly prohibits the possession or sale of weapons and the use or distribution of alcohol, controlled substances and/or recreational drugs on campus or at school-sponsored activities at any time. Violators may be subject to disciplinary action, criminal prosecution, fine, and imprisonment.

Reporting Harassment

How to Report Incidences of Harassment

The Cayce/Reilly School of Massage cannot resolve matters that are not brought to its attention. If you believe that you have been harassed, you should:

• Remain calm and professional.
• Let the individual (who is seemingly harassing you) know immediately that his/her behavior is unwelcome. Be direct and candid with the person.
• When reporting the harassment, be prepared to tell all the facts surrounding the incident. Give details related to the incident(s), including what preceded and followed the incident.
• Report the alleged harassment to the administrative staff of the school or, if this involves a member of the administrative staff, directly to the A.R.E.’s Human Resources Department.

Additionally, any administrative staff, faculty or student who witnesses harassment at any time has a responsibility to bring the matter to either the administrative staff of the Cayce/Reilly School or the A.R.E.’s Human Resources Department immediately.

Investigations of Reports of Harassment

The staff of the Cayce/Reilly School of Massage and the A.R.E.’s Human Resources Department will thoroughly, promptly, and fairly investigate all claims of harassment, including gathering information confidentially from all parties concerned. Subsequently, a Cayce/Reilly School staff member and/or Human Resources staff member will meet with the complaining faculty member or student to discuss the results of the investigation and, where appropriate, to review the proposed resolution of the matter. If an investigation confirms that harassment has occurred, appropriate corrective actions will be taken.

Complaints of harassment will be kept as confidential as possible in the Human Resources office. Information will be released only on a “need to know” basis, and no person will be subjected to retaliation in any form because he/she has reported what he/she believes to be an incident of harassment.

Policy Statement Addressing Sex Offender Registration

In accordance to the "Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act" of 2000, which amends the Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act, the Jeanne Clergy Act and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, the Cayce/Reilly School is providing a link to the Virginia State Police Sex Offender Registry. This act requires institutions of higher education to issue a statement advising the School community where law enforcement information provided by a State concerning registered sex offender may be obtained. It also requires sex offenders already required to register in a State to provide notice of each institution of higher education in that state at which the person is employed, carries a vocation, or is a student.

In the Commonwealth of Virginia, convicted sex offenders must register with the Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry maintained by the Department of State Police. The Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry (SOR) for VIOLENT SEX OFFENDERS is available via Internet pursuant to Section 19.2-390.1, (D), of the Code of Virginia. Registry information provided under this section shall be used for the purposes of the administration of criminal justice, screening of current or prospective employees, volunteers or otherwise for the protection of the public in general and children in particular. Unlawful use of the information for purposes of intimidating or harassing another is prohibited and willful violation shall be punishable as a Class 1 misdemeanor.
